Nancy Ramondo, who lives in Scarsdale, can help. Whether it's a shoulder-padded shearling, your grandmother's fur or simply a coat you used to love but is no longer in fashion, her business, ReFURrished, is all about breathing new life into the old.

"Anything can be re-styled," she said, "Often for a a very reasonable fee, with nothing going to waste."

She started the business on the suggestion of her friend, Mamaroneck resident Alberta Stringham, who saw what Ramondo had done with her fur and wanted something similar.

After completing that coat, Stringham gave Ramondo another and another.

"Alberta suggested we go unto business together," Ramondo said. "And so far, it's been a word of mouth partnership that continues to grow."

The former owner of Little Rembrant in Rye Brook, a longtime arts and crafts store, said she's been lucky as she  -- and Stringham -- know a lot of people. It also helped that Ramondo had room in her mother's house to turn a basement into a showroom where customers can come by, get fitted, or buy new coats wholesale. (Ramondo grew up in the home and now lives in her own house behind it.)

It's all part of a bigger plan called RUBY, Reveal The Ultimate Best You, that's part of her growing image and consultant business. A new RUBY women's clothing line will be launched this spring.

"I've always been into fashion," she said, "It's what I studied years ago so it's been great to go back to my roots and help bring new life to women's prized possessions."
