Scarsdale Sophomores Excel At Westlake Science Symposium

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Twenty science research sophomores from Scarsdale High School took part Saturday in the fourth annual Westlake Invitational -- A Sophomore Science Symposium at Westlake High School in Thornwood.

Scarsdale students took the following awards:

  • Behavior: Hannah Fuehrer, second place; Dexin Li, third place.
  • Cell and molecular biology: Nakul Srinivas, second place.
  • Computer science: Katie Yang, second place.
  • Earth and planetary science: Rishab Gupta, first place.
  • Engineering: Eliot Huh, second place.
  • Medicine/health : Daniel Beitler and Milena Nutrobkina, third place; Jason Feibelman, Nivi Ravi and Annling Wang, first place.
  • Microbiology: Karen Zaklama,first place.

About 280 students from 24 area high schools took part in this event.

Four senior students -- David Frank, Elin Johansson, Zara Mian and Sam Koslowsky -- gave up a busy prom weekend to help out. Six Scarsdale graduates of the science research program -- Jeremy and Jared Frank, Giancarlo Paternoster, Spencer Lee, Alyson Favilla and Zubin Koticha -- also helped out with the judging.
