Scarsdale Women's Club To Host Open House

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The Scarsdale Women’s Club is hosting an open house for all women considering membership in the nonprofit organization.

From 1-4 p.m. Sept. 6, members will welcome interested ladies for a luncheon featuring tea, wine and treats at their clubhouse on Drake Road. Those in attendance can learn about the club’s programs and meet current members.

The Scarsdale Women’s Club hosts several programs each year to aid county charities that support women and children. Its thrift shop in White Plains is open Tuesdays and one Saturday a month. It's also active in distributing books to organizations in need. To date, the women in the club have donated more than two million books to schools, prisons, soldiers and hospitals.

The all-inclusive club has members from 28 communities, stretching from Rockland County to New York City, as well as a few international members. At the luncheon, prospective members can learn about the lectures, concerts, trips and other events for which the club is known.

According to its website , the Scarsdale Women’s Club began during the Suffrage Movement, when a group of zealous public-spirited women began meeting to pursue their civic interests. The club was formally incorporated Dec. 23, 1918. Since then, it's been responsible for creating the local League of Women Voters, the Scarsdale/Edgemont Family Counseling Service and the Scarsdale Auxiliary of White Plains Hospital.
