Village, Candy Store Offer Sweet Deal For Artists

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Step 1: Imagine candy. Step 2: Paint the candy you imagine. Step 3: Submit your painting to the Imagine Candy store Candy Arts Program, being run in conjunction with the Scarsdale Village Parks and Recreation Department.

The contest will run on a quarterly basis, said co-owner Donna Halperin. "People can submit their paintings anytime during the quarter and we will hold them for judging after the quarter ends." The first quarter of 2012 ends in March with judging likely to be done in early April, she said.

A committee chosen from people from outside the village – "no favoritism, no nepotism," Halperin said – will select 25 paintings in each quarter. The chosen works will be displayed in the Imagine Candy store at 22 Harwood Court and will be featured on the store's website . Winners also get a $25 gift certificate to Imagine Candy.

There is no age or location requirement. The painting must be candy-related and show no brand names. An 8-by-10 canvas can be picked up at Imagine Candy, along with an entry form. Forms are also available on the website .
