31-Year-Old Shot, Killed In Yonkers

YONKERS, N.Y. - Police in Yonkers are investigating a fatal shooting that took place in the vicinity of the intersection at Warburton and Lamartine Avenue Wednesday afternoon.

Shortly after 2:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the area, where there was a reported shooting, Police Sgt. Dean Politopoulos said. One male victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. When found, he was down on the ground, bleeding heavily with an apparent gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said.

Officers immediately rendered aid and called for an ambulance which transported the victim to a local area hospital.

The 31-year-old victim, a Yonkers resident, was subsequently pronounced dead at the hospital. His identity has not yet been released, pending family notification.

Officers established a crime scene and an intense investigation is currently underway. 

Detectives from the Major Case Squad and Crime Scene Unit are actively investigating this incident, interviewing witnesses, canvassing for surveillance video, and processing forensic evidence. Preliminary information yields that the victim may have been targeted. 

As this is an active and on-going investigation, no other information will be released at this time.
