The woman and a co-worker traveled to Greenwich on a Westchester County mass transportation Bee-Line bus, police said.

After getting off the bus, the woman began to the cross King Street from the west side to the east side shortly before 7 a.m.near Anderson Hill Road, police said. The woman was struck by a passenger car in the easternmost lane of northbound traffic, police said. The road is also known as Route 120A in the area.

She suffered severe injuries and was transported to the Greenwich Hospital, where she died, police said.

The investigation is still early as police are looking at all factors, Lt. Kraig Gray said.

"King Street is a highly trafficked commuter road," Gray said. "There was no snow at the time of the accident. All the circumstances regarding the environmental factors are part of the investigation."

The deceased woman and her co-worker worked as housecleaners in the area, but it's not known where, Gray said.

The woman's name will not be released, pending the notification of her extended family, he said.

The driver is a New York State resident, but Gray had no further information on the driver. The driver, who was the only occupant of the passenger car, was not injured, he said.

King Street, which was closed for about four hours after the fatal accident, reopened in the area at 10 a.m.

The Greenwich Police Department Traffic Section is conducting the investigation.

Anyone who was a witness to the accident is asked to contact Traffic Technician Drenth at 203-622-8014.
