Fairfield Pays More Than $7K In State Income Taxes Per Person

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Seven Fairfield County towns and cities were among the Top 10 total taxpayers in Connecticut for 2013, according to The Hartford Courant.

Those Top 10 municipalities -- Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, New Canaan, Norwalk, Westport and Fairfield along with Milford, Glastonbury and West Hartford -- paid nearly $2.18 billion to the state in taxes, the Courant said. The 113 towns at the bottom of the list paid less -- $2.16 billion, the Courant said. 

The top two in total payment? Greenwich at $642 million, with Stamford as a distant second at $297 million, the Courant said.

Per person, New Canaan residents paid the most income tax with an average of $24,760, with Greenwich right behind averaging $24,209 per person, The Hartford Courant said. 

Other locales did plenty to feed revenue to the state, according to The Courant: 

  • Darien, at $20,305 per person
  • Westport, $15,781
  • Weston, $15,552
  • Wilton, $12,388
  • Ridgefield, $9,810
  • Easton, $8,976
  • Redding, $8,305
  • Fairfield, $7,653
  • Stamford, $5,088
  • Norwalk, $3,307
  • Danbury, $1,885,
  • Bridgeport, at $938, the second lowest in the state with only Hartford residents averaging less.
