Arrest Made In Scarsdale Jewelry Store Heist

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Yonkers man has been arrested in connection with a string of jewelry store thefts, including Sam Lehr Jewelry in Scarsdale.

Donald Jones, 52, of McLean Avenue in Yonkers faces charges of stealing two rings worth $15,000 in an early afternoon theft Oct. 22 from the Harwood Court store. He is also facing similar charges in connection with thefts in Eastchester, Pleasantville, Tarrytown and Bronxville.

About 1 p.m. Oct. 22, Scarsdale Police Officer Ronnie Arefieg witnessed a man running from the scene before the robbery had been reported. Arefieg, according to a statement from Scarsdale Police Chief John Brogan, made note of the man's description and the vehicle in which he fled. When the report came in, those descriptions were broadcast, Brogan said.

Scarsdale detectives followed up on the auto registration plates, which had been reported as stolen by the original owner. Detectives from other departments where similar robberies were reported worked together to link the plate observed in the Scarsdale theft, which led them to Jones and resulted in his arrest. Jones was identifiedby Arefieg, who will be charged with Grand Larceny in the case, Brogan stated
