The funding, which Paulin was instrumental in securing as part of the NY Works Program, is double what was allotted in 2012 and will supplement the existing State Road and Bridge Capital Plan, according to a news release.
So far, no specific bridge repairs have been named to receive these funds, according to the release. The funds are expected to be used to complete work that is required but not necessarily scheduled to be done, the release said.
“We have seen in recent years what can happen when a storm like Sandy or Irene hits our area,” Paulin said in a statement. “Damage to the infrastructure, such as bridges, retaining walls or overpasses, can be obvious. The damage, however, can also remain hidden until we have an emergency situation on our hands.
“Damage can also come as a result of an accident or be discovered during an annual inspection. These funds will allow us to fix the problem immediately while continuing to keep everyone safe.”
The $6 million were allocated to Region 8, which comprises seven counties in the mid-Hudson Valley Region, including Westchester.
