Author David Kertzer To Visit Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale

SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- David Kertzer, author of the new book, “The Pope and Mussolini: The Secret History of Pius XI and the Rise of Fascism in Europe," will visit the Westchester Reform Temple in Scarsdale on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 9:30 a.m.

Kertzer is the author of numerous books and is a professor of anthropology and Italian studies at Brown University.

“The Pope and Mussolini” is the story of Pope Pius XI’s secret relations with Italian dictator Benito Mussolini. Based on seven years of research in the Vatican and Fascist archives, this work includes reports from Mussolini’s spies inside the highest levels of the church.

Kertzer's earlier publication, “The Kidnapping of Edgardo Mortara,” was a finalist for the National Book Award in 1997. He received the Marraro Prize from the Society for Italian Historical Studies for the best work on Italian history in 1985 and 1990.

This program will be introduced by Rabbi Jonathan Blake. The Westchester Reform Temple is located at 255 Mamaroneck Road, Scarsdale.
