Bangkok City Restaurant Brings Thai to Pelham

PELHAM, N.Y. – A new restaurant has opened in the community that features Thai cuisine along with a futuristic feel. Bangkok City, owned by Artie Leeraternpong, was introduced to Pelham for the first time on Jan. 2.

Leeraternpong, 33, was born in Thailand and lived there until he moved to America with his family in 1989. It was his dream to start this restaurant, which is located at 100 Fifth Ave. He thinks it will succeed in the town.

“Instead of people going to the city to enjoy a nice mojito, food and atmosphere, we can do it right here in Pelham,” Leeraternpong said. “People that have to go to the city for a couple of drinks and take the train or drive home, this is closer to home for them.”

The Westchester resident founded the restaurant in Pelham because he believes “this is what the city needs.” His family owned a Thai restaurant and he used to work there when he was younger, but then he wanted to start his own.

In addition to being the owner and operator of the restaurant, Leeraternpong is also the chef. With more than 10 years of experience as a chef, he is very confident with the selection presented on the menu.

Leeraternpong said that nothing on the menu is over $20, and that the restaurant has a full bar. Bangkok City already has some popular dishes as well.

“Right now, the chicken sauté is pretty hot around here, like a Thai traditional chicken sauté,” Leeraternpong said. “I try to bring street food from Bangkok, Thailand to here. So, one of the dishes that is very hot right now as well is the grilled beef meatballs. Exact same as off the streets in Thailand.”

Business has been strong in the early weeks of the restaurant, but Leeraternpong is eager for the amount of customers to increase.

“We have good crowds and we have good review, but I wanna go beyond. I want good to be better, better to be best, best to be wow.” Leeraternpong said. “I just want everybody to come in and have a good time and I just want to blend in with the community.”

The restaurant is open from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 2 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
