Brush Fire Burns in Cortlandt

Approximately 3 acres of Bear Mountain State Park were burning as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Continental Village Fire Department has responded to the scene as have several Westchester County helicopters in an attempt to put out the large blaze.  Helicopters are carrying what appears to be buckets of water to the remote fire scene, which is located near Bear Mountain Bridge Road not far from Camp Smith.

The location is inaccessible by vehicle and firefighters were forced to walk to the site of the fire, according to New York State Police Sgt. Mark Nielson.
