Every year since 2003, gearheads have traveled to Scarsdale from throughout the tristate area to show off some of the finest, most valuable vehicles in the world, which are arranged by make, model and generation.
Each make has its own section, including Corvettes, Ferraris, Porsches, Cadillacs, Bentleys and Mercedes. Judges mull through the show throughout the day, critiquing and commending certain things on the cars, and will hand out more than 30 awards.
Judges this year will include members of the automotive press and media, including representatives from Top Gear, Consumer Reports and Car and Driver magazine.
The Concours d’Elegance is the brainchild of Evan Cygler and Denis O’Leary III, former classmates at the Windward School in White Plains and Scarsdale when they were teenagers in Westchester. The event has since grown rapidly and has raised more than $275,000 for local charities since the inaugural car show.
According to the founders, the show was created for three reasons: to showcase Scarsdale students as part of a constructive and giving community; the teenagers’ passion for new and vintage cars; and to raise large sums of money for local charities.
Last year, more than 125 car owners participated in the event, with $32,000 being spread out among the White Plains Hospital, Scarsdale and Edgemont Family Counseling Service, the Wounded Warriors Family Assistance Fund and the Scarsdale Foundation.
This year, the Scarsdale Concours d’Elegance will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in downtown Scarsdale. Tickets will cost $10 per adult, though future car lovers younger than 12 can get in free.
