Criminal Mischief at North Salem High School

NORTH SALEM, N.Y. - As Police Officer Ralph Argiento was doing a walk-through at North Salem High School last Tuesday he was approached by a student who reported that her car had been vandalized while she was in class.

It soon developed that several cars had been scratched, possibly by a key. Two cars had scratch marks along the sides of the car body, while two others had scratch marks on the hoods, his investigation revealed. The damage occurred while school was in session. Officer Argiento contacted the New York State Police, who responded and reported that a file would be opened on the case.

In other news, a Crosby Road resident called police on Wednesday afternoon, reporting that he was being harassed by a neighbor who drove his car up on the front lawn in an attempt to contact him. Police advised the neighbor to stay away from the house and its residents.

A Titicus Road resident called police early last Friday evening to report that someone had been trying to break into his house. The resident said he was upstairs when he heard an unusual noise below. He went down and discovered a pane of glass on a french door had been broken near the door lock. Local police and State Police responded and checked the outside of the building, where they found fresh pry marks on the French door. An investigation of the properties perimeter did not disclose anything further.

On Monday afternoon a Starr Ridge Road resident reported a raccoon acting strangely on the rear deck of her house. She feared it might be rabid. Sgt. Andrew Brown responded and located the animal a few feet from the residence in a woodpile. The animal was dispatched.

Another animal-related incident occurred last Friday when a delivery driver making a pick-up at a Lakeview Road address was suddenly attacked by the homeowner’s 3-year-old black lab, which came rushing through the open screen door and bit the driver on the left elbow. A Westchester EMT and the North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded and treated the victim, who refused further medical attention. Police verified the animal’s inoculation record with the Brewster Veterinary Hospital, which confirmed that the dog was up to date on his shots.
