The Ossining Fire Department responded to the blaze before 3:30 p.m. to find an unattached garage at 47½ N. Malcolm St. and a nearby van parked on the private residence engulfed in flames. No one was inside the garage or the van, but a resident was inside the adjacent home.

No one was injured in the blaze, fire officials said, but the garage and the van were destroyed.

“The cause is undetermined right now,” said First Assistant Fire Chief Matthew Scarduzio. “We understand there was a wood-burning stove inside the garage, but we’re not sure if that’s the cause. We’re still trying to determine how it started, since no one was inside.”

Scarduzio said he could not estimate the value of the garage, but added that the blaze “melted some of the siding” on the house.

More than 30 firefighters from the Ossining Fire Department and Croton’s Firefighter Assist and Search Team battled the blaze until 4:45 p.m. An engine from Millwood and a tower ladder from Sleepy Hollow assisted on the scene.
