Gallup Poll: Connecticut Ranks Among Bottom 10 As 'Best States To Live In'

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Not many Nutmeggers think Connecticut is a great place to live, if a new Gallup Poll is to be believed.

Less than a third of Connecticut residents think the Nutmeg State is among the best states to live -- and 17-percent say it's the worst.

Only 31 percent of Connecticut residents surveyed view the state as the best or one of the best states in the country to live in. That put Connecticut in the bottom 10 of the poll in which residents responded positively to their state.

In addition, 17 percent of Connecticut residents polled said the Nutmeg State is the worst possible state to live in the United States. That was tied for the second-highest percentage of responders; Rhode Island came in with the worst score.

Gallup also recently released a poll saying that 49 percent of Connecticut residents want to leave the state -- the second-highest response in that poll.

Results for this Gallup Poll are based on telephone interviews conducted June to December 2013, with a random sample of 600 adults per state, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states, according to Gallup.

Montana and Alaska residents responded the most positively to their state, with 77 percent of adults polled in each state saying that their state is the best or among the best in the country to live in.

Texas had the highest percentage of responders who think that their state is the absolute best state to live in with 68 percent loving the Lone Star State.

Rhode Island had the lowest amount of positive responders, with only 18 percent of residents saying that the state is the best or among the best in the U.S.

Residents of Western and Midwestern states generally responded more positively about their states as places to live. With the exception of the New England states of New Hampshire and Vermont, all of the top 10 rated states are west of the Mississippi River.
