TARRYTOWN, N.Y.--Daniel Greenburg always looks for the cheapest price when he has to fill up his car with gas.
Greenburg gets a Stop N Shop discount at the Tarrytown Shell Station, so thats why he was buying gas there Thursday afternoon. He saved 30 cents a gallon.
For most of June, the price of gas had been more than $4 a gallon, causing many to tighten their belts and drive less. But recently that price has gone down.
In Tarrytown Thursday, the lowest advertised price for a gallon of regular gas was at the Shell Gas Station off of Route 9. Shell was selling gas for $3.93 a gallon at the cash price. The Hess gas station was selling gas at $3.97 a gallon. The Mobil Station advertised gas for $4.01. In Irvington, the Shell Gas Station was advertising gas for $3.99 a gallon.
Greenburg said he didnt change his driving habits when gas was more than $4 and he hasnt driven more now that gas is less than $4.
If have to drive someplace, I will, he said.
But he admitted the price reduction wasnt a bad thing.
It makes it a little better, he said. Its still expensive; I remember when it was 15 cents a gallonand that was way long ago.
