The park, known famously for being the scene of the Battle of White Plains, was taken into consideration by the council for renaming to better represent its historical significance.

The battle occurred on Oct. 28, 1776. A plaque at the park tells the story of George Washington and the Continental Army's battle to preserve the region of White Plains.

Mayor Thomas Roach retold the story of the park, citing it as an important historical landmark for White Plains and Westchester that should be honored with continued historical preservation.

Plans for an official ceremony have yet to be announced.

The park is located at 136 Hartsdale Ave.
