SCARSDALE, N.Y. - Westchester County Police arrested two people Wednesday night and seized a loaded .45-caliber handgun and more than a pound of marijuana following a traffic stop on the Hutchinson River Parkway.
According to a Westchester County Police press release, Officer Emil Garcia was on patrol northbound near Weaver Street at about 9:30 p.m. when he stopped a car going 75 miles per hour in a 55 mile per hour zone. As he approached the car, he said he saw the driver and passenger switch places. The passenger, a woman, admitted she had switched places with the driver because he did not have a license, according to police.
Garcia, according to the release, smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and arrested both people. A vehicle search turned up nine small plastic bags containing a total of 1.5 pounds of marijuana along with a .45-caliber Hi-Point handgun, police said.
Hopeton Campbell, 42, and Tesfa McCaw, 28, both of Bridgeport, Conn., were each charged with second degree criminal possession of a weapon and third degree criminal possession of marijuana, both felonies. Hopeton was also charged with second degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
