The JLCW is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of females and improving Westchester through the actions and leadership of trained volunteers. Women of all races, religions and nationalities are invited to the recruiting event to gauge their interest in joining the organization.

“Our membership encompasses the full spectrum of central Westchester women, including professional executives and stay-at-home moms, who share the same commitment to making an impact on the community and building lifelong friendships,” Lauren Wyler-Smith, president of the JLCW said.

At the informational coffees, prospective members will learn about the JLCW efforts to improve the lives of their neighbors, as well as the activities and initiatives that support these causes.

New members will be trained while completing a short-term community service project. Last fall, new members partnered with the Grace Community Church Center Samaritan House Women’s Shelter in White Plains.

During the short-term project, the trainees enhanced living quarters, hosted a brunch for residents and staff members, and created “Welcome Wagon Move-In Kits” for those that transitioned out of the shelter and into permanent housing. The projects are designed to help the community, allow members to familiarize themselves with the league and begin networking with fellow volunteers.

“I look forward to welcoming a new group of dynamic women, calling them my friends and working with them on projects in the future,” Wyler-Smith said.

The coffees will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 23 and 8 p.m. on Jan. 24 at Wayside Cottage. Those interested in participating should RSVP no later than Jan. 20 to jlcw@verizon.net or 914-723-6130.
