SCARSDALE, N.Y. – The next stage of demolition of the Popham Road Bridge is set to begin Monday night, and Scarsdale residents can anticipate more late night noise.

Stage 3 of demolition on the bridge is scheduled to continue until the end of the month. Due to safety concerns, demolition work must be done when the least traffic is in the area. Work will be performed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Workers will be demolishing the final, middle section of the existing bridge, which includes the concrete deck, concrete abutments, concrete footing and structural steel.

Much of the concrete will need to be removed using drills, jackhammers and backhoes. In a statement, the village warned “the noise level will vary in intensity at the beginning part of the night.”

If possible, the contractor has been directed to perform the noisiest work in the earliest part of the evening.

Stage 3 is the last stage of the project. Stage 4 includes finishing punch list and administrative items. The long overdue project is scheduled for completion by the end of December 2012, with administrative details completed by February 2013.
