The Jewish Community Center of Mid-Westchester will offer parents a look into their child’s mind when Dr. Juna Bobby, the founder of MindBodySpace in Rye, leads a discussion about the challenges and everyday stresses children face today.

The lecture will explain the differences between good and bad stress, as well as the physical and cognitive effects it can have on children in and out of the classroom. Bobby will also teach participants how to elicit the “Relaxation Response,” an antidote for stress response.

MindBodySpace offers a results-oriented approach to improving emotional and mental health through stress relief. At the lecture, Bobby will introduce the Extra Edge Program for students, which was adapted from a program created by the Benson Henry Institute’s Education Initiative at Harvard Medical School.

Bobby, a graduate of the NYU Medical School has trained at Montefiore Medical Center, St. Vincent’s Hospital and at the Benson-Henry Institute. She is a board certified radiologist, though her expertise lies in teaching thinking skills and tools to break stress and promote mental health.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. on July 30 at the JCC, with a repeat session at the same time on Nov. 13. The lecture will cost $25, which can be paid to the JCC in Scarsdale. Those interested can contact Academic Center Director Lisa Itzkowitz at 914-472-3300 ext. 275 or itzkowitzl@jccmw.org.
