SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Mamaroneck teenager is earning praise from some of New York’s biggest sports stars as he and his family get set to host their ninth annual charitable cocoa event in Scarsdale.

Each year, the Greenberg family treks from Mamaroneck to Scarsdale to host Evan and Joshua's Cocoa Stand.

Since 2006, Evan, 13 and Joshua, 11, Greenberg have helped warm up the winter with an annual hot chocolate and candy stand, which has grown from a small homemade site in the family garage to a fully functioning weekend event at All Good Things in Scarsdale each year.

In total, the enterprising youngsters have raised more than $15,000 for charity, most of which has gone to the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

Evan and Joshua’s Hot Cocoa stand quickly took off, and it’s garnered support from the community. The cocoa that is sold is donated by Chocolations in Scarsdale, with the cups and sugar coming from the Nautilus Diner in Mamaroneck. This year, some of the local professional sports teams have chipped in after Evan approached them about his endeavor.

“Evan first asked Ike Davis of the Mets to come to his stand when we met him at a Citibank store opening,” his father Ken, said. “When we heard that Jason Bay moved into town, he left a flier in his mailbox and then had the idea to write to many players.”

The message was heard, and the teams sent memorabilia, tickets and other goods to help raise money for charity. The letter writing campaign then spread to the Yankees, Knicks, Giants, Jets, Nets and Devils, all of whom provided items that will be raffled off for charity. The Rangers even sent a team signed stick for hockey enthusiasts.

After asking for and receiving Evan’s email address, New York Mets' third baseman David Wright took things a step further, with a personalized donation for the cause and gift for Evan.

“David Wright asked me for my e-mail address. A few days later, the Mets' equipment manager e-mailed me and asked for my home address,” Evan said. “About a week later, I received a big box with two bats. One that was signed for the Hot Cocoa Stand and the other for me. (He signed) ‘Evan, keep up the good work.’ ”

This year’s Evan and Joshua’s Hot Cocoa Stand will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 7 and noon to 6 p.m. March 8 at All Good Things in Scarsdale. There will be raffles, baked goods, sweets, cocoa and other items for sale.

“Evan and Joshua Greenberg embody what our charity is about,” Pediatric Cancer Foundation President Bonnie Shyer said about the stand. “These boys demonstrate that our mission to ‘hold the hand of a child’ can begin at a young age with small hands. “Evan and Joshua’s energy, spirit and kindness are priceless. The cocoa stand is a success of the heart.”
