Mamaroneck's Sonenclar Gets Twice The 'X Factor' Praise

MAMARONECK, N.Y. – Carly Rose Sonenclar, the Mamaroneck 13-year-old competing on "X Factor," is poised to stay No. 1 in viewer votes after judges gave both her performances rave reviews Wednesday night.

All four judges – Simon Cowell, L.A. Reid, Demi Lovato and Sonenclar's "X Factor" mentor, Britney Spears – praised Sonenclar for her consistently good performances after she sang "As Long As You Love Me" by Justin Bieber and "If I Were A Boy" by Beyonce.

Normally known for his dry British humor, Cowell said that acts like Sonenclar are why he loves working in the U.S. "I am seeing a star emerge in front of me," he told Sonenclar.

Lovato also gave Sonenclar a boost: "I love it when I hear unplugged versions that are actually better than the actual song. You sang it better than Justin did."

Last week, Reid told Sonenclar her performance wasn’t his favorite. He said that after her performance this week, he is convinced she has what it takes to succeed as a recording artist.

"We know that you go on stage and you kill it every time. But what I loved about that performance is that you actually shows some restraint and it wasn't filled with vocal acrobatics. And I'm going to tell you that that was maybe your best, for my taste."

Spears said that Sonenclar was "the definition of the 'X Factor'" and that she never fails to make songs her own.

Sonenclar's Beyonce rendition also earned her more praise from Reid. "You never let me down, you are so talented."

Cowell added that she had a "phenomenal night." Viewers will decide if that will make two such nights when they vote for their favorites in the Top 6. Rankings and eliminations will be announced at 8 p.m. Thursday, when Sonenclar will be hoping to make it a third week at No. 1.
