“We’re not adding rush-hour trains,” she said. “They’re all off-peak and weekend trains. In October, the New Haven Line got the bulk of the extra trains and now, this go-around, it’s the Hudson and Harlem Lines that are getting the bulk of the trains.”

The Hudson Line will gain 80 weekday trains and 19 weekend trains, Anders said, while the Harlem Line picks up 60 weekday trains and six weekend trains. The New Haven Line started running an additional 45 weekday and weekend trains in October and will add  nine weekend trains in April.

Anders said the move was necessary due to the high off-peak and weekend ridership on the three lines.

As yet, there is no specific schedule for the new trains, Anders said. However, she added that the Irvington station would see an increase in trains.

In October, Metro-North added 79 trains to its off-peak and weekend schedules for the New Haven, Harlem and Pascack Valley lines. The additional 174 trains in April marks “the biggest service improvement in Metro-North history,” said Anders.

“We’re very excited about it,” she said in October. “Our goal is to have continuous half-hourly service. We think our customers are going to like it, and we think our ridership’s going to go up.”
