Who needs flying reindeer when Metro-North Railroad will offer a special holiday schedule with all the service residents and visitors will need for getting around on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day?
Tuesday and Wednesday: During the heaviest travel times (10 a.m.-2 p.m.), Metro-North will provide longer and extra trains on all lines. See a regular timetable for details.
If you are traveling with family and friends, the railroad suggests purchasing an off-peak 10-trip ticket. In addition to the discounted price, it is transferable, so everyone riding can use it.
New Year's Eve, Thursday: There will be modified weekday a.m. and p.m. service, plus peak service, with an early afternoon getaway schedule.
There will be some train consolidations in the morning. Peak, extra outbound service will be offered between noon and 4 p.m., and consolidated service during the afternoon/evenint peak.
For those of you planning to party in Times Square (or anywhere else in Manhattan), the New Year's Eve schedule will include extra inbound late afternoon and early evening service.
And when the party truly is finally over, New Year's morning service will get you home.
Remember that drinking alcohol on Metro-North trains and at stations is banned from noon New Year's Eve until noon New Year's Day.
In addition, the train line is asking riders to buy tickets in advance: Those taking the early morning New Year's service will have their tickets collected prior to boarding trains at Grand Central.
