Metro North Trains Slowing Down in Eastchester

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. -- Metro North trains traveling northbound from the Leewood Country Club in Eastchester to the Harney Road Bridge have been slowing down lately.

Metro North trains have temporarily slowed down in Eastchester due to a drainage problem on some of the tracks.

While trains usually operate at up to 60 miles per hour through that section of track, they are temporarily limited to 30 miles per hour because of a track condition, explained Aaron Donovan, a spokesman for Metro North.

"There had been a drainage problem on one of the two tracks along that stretch that has since been repaired, but crews must return to perform some surfacing work in order to get the stone ballast that underlies the tracks back to tip-top shape and allow us to lift the speed restriction. Weather permitting, this should be completed by next month," he said.

However, the speed restriction, Donovan continued, does not strictly draw a northbound/southbound distinction.

It affects trains traveling either direction on Track 1, which is the easternmost of the two tracks through that areas. That track is usually, but not exclusively, used by northbound trains.

The adjacent Track 2, normally used by southbound trains, is not affected by the speed restriction, said Donovan.
