Five roads in the village were still closed Wednesday, nine days after Hurricane Sandy, due to downed electrical power lines. Village officials said they were hopeful of getting the blocked stretches of Innes Road, Cambridge Road, Wakefield Road, Bansom Road and Rock Creek Lane open by Wednesday night, but the nor’easter that began dropping precipitation in the afternoon could cause further delays.
Of Con Edison’s 6,025 customers, 1,775 – approximately 30 percent – were still without power Wednesday.
Seven Con Edison restoration crews, using 26 bucket trucks, were working in the village with a tree crew to cut power lines and clear the trees blocking roadways. More than 1,000 customers had power restored on Tuesday, and Con Edison has reported that all outages in the county should be cleared by Friday.
Con Edison said that the nor’easter could delay restorations not only in Scarsdale, but around Westchester and New York City.
“The new weather system approaching the region on Wednesday will bring rain and heavy winds that could slam trees into power lines,” a Con Edison news release said. “The new storm could delay Con Edison’s customer restorations. Crews repairing overhead lines and equipment cannot work in high winds.”
Village officials don’t expect much snow to accumulate during the nor’easter, but damaging winds are anticipated from 7 p.m. to midnight. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory until 6 a.m. and a high wind warning until 4 a.m. on Thursday.
