Mount Vernon Library Director Resigns After 3 Months

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. – Donna Hurwitz, director of the Mount Vernon Public Library, has resigned from her position after three months.

Hurwitz said the job had become “unbearable,” giving that as the reason she left.

Mayor Ernie Davis has spoken about restructuring the way the library is operated. Davis also suggested cutting $500,000 from the library’s budget to reduce the 9.8 percent property tax rate increase he proposed in the 2013 city budget.

Other problems the library faces are a leaky roof, no fire sprinkler system and the loss of its nonprofit status. Hurwitz said she really liked the people at the library and is sorry things didn’t work out better.
