FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Fairfield County passengers will get full service back on Metro-North's New Haven Line to Grand Central Terminal on Friday, Gov. Dannel Malloy said Thursday — and all trains will be free.
Crews have been making "night-and-day repairs" to restore regular weekday service, Malloy said in a press release.
New Canaan and Danbury branch lines will begin running again as soon as possible, Malloy said.
“Given the damage and disruption we sustained up and down the line as result of this storm, a return to full main line service in a matter of a few days is remarkable,” Malloy said. “Metro-North workers were deployed immediately and have been working around the clock to return us to 100 percent service on the line between New Haven and New York. This is great news for commuters, our state and Connecticut’s economy."
The New Haven Line is the busiest rail line in America, serving 125,000 daily commuters, Malloy said.
Service between Stamford and Grand Central resumed Thursday.
