The latest proposal released by Cardinal Timothy Dolan would merge St. John the Evangelist the Church of St. Bernard and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in White Plains, with St. John the Evangelist being the parish church, LoHud.com reported.
Under the merger, Our Lady of Mount Carmel would close except for special occasions with St. Bernard taking on a secondary role while still offering services within the parish, LoHud.com said.
Another merger within Westchester would include Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Pompeii, both in Dobbs Ferry; St. Matthew in Hasting; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Ardsley with Our Lady of Pompeii set to close, The New York Times said.
A spokesman for the archdiocese stressed that these mergers and closings are merely proposals at this point and are not yet finalized. If they are to be included in the realignment, the mergers would likely take place by Aug. 15, 2015, The New York Times said.
