No Foul Play Suspected In Death Of Doctor Linked To Westchester OD Death

New York State police don't suspect foul play in the death of a Hudson Valley psychiatrist who was indicted last year for writing thousands of illegal prescriptions and was on house arrest, according to Trooper Steven Nevel.

Alfred Ramirez, 78, was known as "The Pill Doctor."

Known as "The Pill Doctor," Alfred Ramirez, 78, was found dead in his Monroe home after State Police received a call from the White Plains Federal Pre-Trial Office to check his welfare, Nevel said.

When troopers arrived at the home they did not get a response from inside the residence and it appeared all of the doors were locked. Troopers were able to get inside the home through a kitchen window, he added.

Ramirez was located deceased inside the residence and at this time, no foul play is suspected, Nevel said.

The psychiatrist, who operated practices in Dutchess and Orange counties, was indicted last year for writing illegal prescriptions for more than 10,000 Oxycodone pills including those that allegedly killed a Yonkers school teacher in March 2015, said U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York Preet Bharara.

The investigation is ongoing and a final determination into the cause of death is pending an autopsy and toxicology report.
