SCARSDALE, N.Y. – There will be nightly closures of the Popham Road Bridge this week, as work continues on the long delayed, often criticized project in Scarsdale.
The bridge will be closed on Thursday and Friday nights to both pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The closures will last from 8:30 p.m. each evening until 5 a.m. the next morning while the contractor removes existing structural steel from the middle section of the bridge.
In addition to the bridge, Scarsdale Avenue from Popham Road, to the commuter parking lot will be closed, as will southbound East Parkway traffic from Christie Place to Popham Road.
From the southbound East Parkway, vehicular traffic will be detoured east to Christie Place, then north onto Chase Road. From there they should travel east on Crane Road, south onto Post Road, west onto Brook Street and west onto Harney Road. Finally they should go north to Scarsdale Avenue or Garth Road.
Motorists travelling westbound on Popham Road will be sent north on Chase Road, east onto Crane Road, south onto Post Road and then west onto Brook Street. They then will go west onto Harney Road and then north to Scarsdale Avenue or Garth Road.
Eastbound Popham Road traffic will be detoured south onto Garth Road, east to Harney Road, east to Brook Street, north to Post Road and west onto Popham Road.
Vehicular traffic on the northbound Scarsdale Avenue will be directed east onto Grand Boulevard, north on Post Road and west onto Popham Road.
Pedestrians will have to use the Metro-North and Freightway Parking Garage bridges to cross over the railroad tracks.
In case of inclement weather during any of the scheduled construction dates, the rain date for work on the bridge is Saturday night.
