If the measures are approved, the county would apply for a grant from the Federal Aviation Administration for the repairs to Taxiway A. The FAA would pay for $3.26 million of the project, approximately 90 percent of the total cost. The county would pay for 5 percent of the cost of the project, and the remaining 5 percent would be paid for by the New York Department of Transportation.

Legislators will also vote on the sale of $2 million in bonds to pay for repairs to terminal systems at the airport. This project would include the refurbishment of terminal escalators and the ticket counter area, as well as ground handling renovations and upgrades to terminal lighting. The terminal was constructed in 1995 and is in need of upgrades, according to the County Department of Public Works and Transportation. Work on this project would likely be completed by the end of the summer.

The two projects were approved by the board’s Budget and Appropriations Committee at its meeting this week. Earlier this month the Board of Legislators approved the sale of $8 million in bonds to finance the replacement of boilers, air conditioning, baggage carousels and underground water systems. The county is also installing a $250,000 natural gas pipeline in an effort to cut down on energy costs.
