Storm Knocks Down Power, Trees In Weston, Easton, Redding

Update, Friday, 10:55 a.m.: In Weston on Friday morning 638 customers were still without power, Connecticut Light & Power says. In Redding, 171 remained in the dark. In Easton, 284 customers did not have power, The United Illuminating Company says.

WESTON, Conn. – Downed trees, fallen live wires burning in roadways, power outages and road closings were reported across Weston, Easton and Redding after Thursday evening's severe thunderstorm.

In Easton, 328 homes had lost power as of 9:15 p.m., according to the United Illuminating website. Many trees had fallen in town, police said. Live wires were burning on Sport Hill Road, Church Road and Southfield Road, and six roads had been closed Thursday evening, police said.

A total of 718 customers, or 18 percent of the Weston, were without power as of 9 p.m., according to the Connecticut Light & Power website. In Redding, the number was 1,065 customers, or 27 percent.

Police were monitoring conditions in town, and some officers were out on the roads, Weston First Selectman Gayle Weinstein said.

The forecast calls for scattered thunderstorms continuing Friday and Saturday.
