Rain, Melting Could Cause Falling Ice From Buildings, Bridges Wednesday

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Most of Westchester County will see all rain on Wednesday, but portions of Northern Westchester could see a mixed bag of precipitation.

The precipitation is expected to arrive as all rain in central and southern Westchester around 10 a.m., when temperatures are expected to be above freezing. But in Northern Westchester, there may be a combination of rain showers, snow showers and freezing rain until sometime in the early afternoon when the changeover to all rain is expected.

Wednesday’s high temperature is expected to be between 40 and 42 degrees.

Because significant melting is anticipated, the National Weather Services warns that melting snow and ice will be falling from buildings and bridges, creating a travel hazard near those structures and the potential for ice jam flooding.

Thursday will be partly sunny with a high in the 40s. Rain returns Thursday night and continues at times Friday with spring-like temperatures in the 50s, and thunderstorms possible after 9 a.m.
