Report: Metro-North Engineer In Derailment Exceeded Speed Limit In Past

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – The Metro-North Railroad engineer who was at the controls when a train derailment caused four deaths in the Bronx on Dec. 1, 2013 exceeded the speed limit numerous times during the week before the crash, reports LoHud.com.

Newly released documents show that William Rockefeller went over the speed limit several times during the week before the derailment.

Documents released Oct. 3 by the National Transportation Safety Board showed that William Rockefeller went over the speed limit by at least 5 mph 14 times during four out of six runs during the last week of November, according to LoHud.com.

Four people were killed in the derailment, including Jim Lovell, 58, of Cold Spring and James Ferrari, 59, of Montrose, according to the article.
