The Scarsdale Adult School will be offering classes next month for adults on how to safely detox from sugar addiction, reduce stress levels, and establish healthy eating habits. The classes, which can be taken individually or as a series, will be led holistic health coach and B-nspired Yoga and Wellness company founder Stephanie Filardi.
Jill Serling, executive director of the Scarsdale Adult School, said almost anyone can benefit from these classes. She has seen a significant rise in enrollment for Adult School classes that promote stress reduction and healthy living.
Id say that were all stressed. Its a stressful time period, with the anniversary of 9/11, and the change of seasons, she said.
The first of the three classes, Sugar Detox will be held on Oct. 6 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Westchester Reform Temple. It teaches students how to overcome sugar addictions.
It is a class for people that recognize that sugar has overtaken their lives, Serling said. Mentally, sugar is an addictive agent and can contribute to health problems such as obesity. Stephanie will teach students why they crave sugar and how to reduce those cravings.
The second of the series, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction will take place Oct. 13 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Scarsdale High School. In this class, Filardi will teach students stress-relieving techniques.
Eating for Healthy Aging and the Role of Supplements, will meet on Nov. 17 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Scarsdale High School.
This class helps people figure out what supplements they should be taking and what they should not be taking, Serling explained.
