The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch and coastal flood warning for the Northeast that will continue through Saturday morning.

Up to 10 inches of snow is expected to accumulate, with wind gusts as high as 55 miles per hour.

If electrical wires are down, residents are advised to treat them as if they are live. Wires should not be moved or touched; and be aware that wires might be hidden from view by tree limbs, leaves, water, or snow.

Any downed wires should be reported to both Con Edison and the Scarsdale Police Department immediately.

If a power outage occurs, all appliances that would turn on automatically when power is restored should be disconnected, because when several appliances start up at once, it can overload circuits.

Village officials advise that flashlights and battery-operated radios should be checked to ensure they are in working order.

Weather updates will be available on local news, as well as on the village website: www.scarsdale.com.

Customers can report downed power lines, outages and check service restoration status at the Con Edison website, or by calling 1-800-75-CONED. When reporting, customers should have their Con Edison account number available and be ready to advise whether neighbors have also lost power.
