Scarsdale Crash Leads to DWI Arrest

SCARSDALE, N.Y. – A Garth Road resident was arrested early Friday morning following a traffic accident at Garth and Popham roads.

James M. Maxwell, 33, of the 100 block of Garth Road, faces charges of aggravated driving while intoxicated (blood alcohol level of .18 or more) and driving while intoxicated, both misdemeanors.

According to the Scarsdale Police report, a man approached police on Garth Road at about 12:44 a.m. and said his car had been struck from behind at the traffic light at the intersection with Popham Road. While interviewing the drivers, police said, they detected that Maxwell had been drinking. Maxwell failed a field sobriety test, the report stated, and was placed under arrest.

He was booked at Scarsdale Police Headquarters and released on a $250 cash bail.

Fence damaged: A Taunton Road resident reported Friday that someone had vandalized his new fence. The man told police that someone had kicked his new wooden fence several times between 3 p.m. May 14 and 7 a.m. May 16. Both sides of the fence were damaged and portions were dislodged, the police report stated.

Shattered window: An Ogden Road woman reported Friday afternoon that the rear window of her vehicle had been shattered while it was parked in front of her home. Children playing ball had been seen in the area prior to the incident.

Car vandalized: A Rego Park man reported Friday afternoon that his car had been damaged while it was parked in the Christie Place Garage. The man told police he parked his car at 1:42 p.m. and, when he returned at 2:15 p.m., he saw that someone had used a blunt object and scratched the passenger side doors and trunk.

ID theft: A Scarsdale priest who is caretaker for an elderly Secor Road resident told police Friday that someone had changed the address associated with the man's life insurance policy. He also said someone had tried to open a credit card account in the man 's name.

Graffiti: A Tisdale Road resident complained Thursday that someone had sketched graffiti on her wall and backyard tree between May 14 and 17.

Car burglarized: A Bradley Road man told police that someone took $50 from his vehicle between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 11 p.m. Wednesday in the driveway of his residence. The man said he believes his vehicle was left unlocked.

Hit-and-run arrest: A New Rochelle man is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and aggravated unlicensed operation, a misdemeanor, stemming from an accident reported May 12. David M. Hill, 41, was arrested Wednesday and charged with leaving the scene of a rear-end collision at East Parkway and Popham Road. Hill was released on recognizance.

Lamp post damaged: A Tisdale Road man told police a lamp post in his yard had been damaged between Monday night, May 14, and Tuesday morning.

Bike taken: A mountain bike valued at $320 was reported stolen from the bike rack at 55 East Parkway between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday. The lock cable had been cut, according to the police report.

Drunks removed: Scarsdale police were called to the train station on East Parkway at 12:33 p.m. Monday to assist with two intoxicated men who needed to go to the hospital. Eastchester EMS transported the men to White Plains Hospital.
