Scarsdale, Did You Know...?

SCARSDALE, N.Y.- Bandersnatch  is the name of the Scarsdale High School yearbook and the school’s mascot. But what is a Bandersnatch?

A Bandersnatch is a made-up creature mentioned in the poem “Jabberwocky,” written by  Lewis Carroll, the author of "Alice in Wonderland," "Through the Looking Glass" and more famous works .

Lewis offers only this description of a Bandersnatch in “Jabberwocky,” “Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun. The frumious Bandersnatch!"

The Bandersnatch is not the only Lewis Carroll reference made at Scarsdale High School. The school’s literary magazine is called Jabberwocky and an annual student band performance is called Jabberfest.

Do you know the history of why there are so many Lewis Carroll references woven in the traditions of Scarsdale High School? Please share below.
