SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Leaf collection in Scarsdale has begun and will continue through Dec. 6.
Leaves will be collected approximately every 20 business days, and depending on weather conditions, at least one collection is planned each month for each street. The leaf collection schedule is displayed and updated on a weekly basis on Scarsdale’s Government Access Channel 75 and Verizon Channel 43, as well as the village’s website.
Residents may rake leaves (no branches, grass, dirt, stones, etc. mixed with leaves placed curbside) to the curb line or to the edge of pavement for collection. Leaves also may be placed into biodegradable paper bags and placed at the curb for weekly collections by the village. Leaves may not be raked into the street, as this creates traffic hazards for both motorists and pedestrians and can clog catch basins impeding the proper function of the storm drainage system.
Biodegradable bags are available for purchase at a cost of $4/five bags from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. wekdays in the coordinating office on the second floor of Village Hall. Bags also may be purchased at the Recycling Yard Center, 110 Secor Road from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Only check or money order will be accepted at the center. Landscapers are not permitted to purchase the biodegradable paper bags.
Branches placed at curbside must be separated from leaf piles and tied in bundles less than 5-feet long and 18-inches in diameter, weighting no more than 50 pounds. Residents should contact a private carter for pickup of individual branches larger than 3 inches in diameter.
Residents also can bring leaves from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, in loose or biodegradable paper bags, to the Recycling Yard Center, 110 Secor Road. There is no charge. Contractors also may bring leaves free of charge to the center once they obtain a free permit from the Department of Public Works. Please contact Eric Gerringer at (914) 722-1150 for more information.
