SCARSDALE, N.Y. - The Scarsdale Public Library is expanding its catalog of eBooks and downloadable audio books with the addition of the 3M Cloud.
The current Overdrive digital media service will continue to be available. The 3M Cloud provides a simpler, more intuitive set-up for apps or desktop formats with fewer steps to get started. It can be accessed through the library website, www.scarsdalelibrary.org, clicking on e-library on the left menu and then Listen & Read.
“In addition to the easier set-up, with 3M Cloud we will have more titles and there will be a shorter waiting time for books,” says Elizabeth Bermel, library director. “Scarsdale cardholders will also be able to download more titles at one time as Overdrive and 3M Cloud have separate quantity limits.”
While 3M Cloud will have fewer titles to start, Bermel says the library will increase the catalog over time and as new titles are released. She urges cardholders to try both to see which they prefer. Books on 3M Cloud can be downloaded to Kindle Fire tablets and iPads, but not Kindle e-readers.
Cardholders can bookmark their place in 3M Cloud and also jot down notes by clicking on a box in the upper right-hand corner.
“In recent years, we have greatly expanded the availability of downloadable materials and digital services,” Bermel says. “The library has other services to download books as well as movies and magazines. This is part of our ongoing overall program to provide the latest technology for our community. We are constantly looking at new offerings and upgrades.”
