SCARSDALE, N.Y. – Video from PBS Kids, National Geographic, Sesame Street and other educational providers is now available at the Scarsdale Public Library on a hand held device called Playaway View, the library announced Monday.
The viewer from Findaway World features a 3.5-inch LCD screen and a shatter-resistant case and is preloaded with content such as "Strega Nona and Other Stories from Near and Far," "Best of Sesame," "Amazing Planet," "Red Riding Hood and Other Fairy Tales by James Marshall," "Caps for Sale and Other Storybook Classics" and "Exploring Space."
The device initially offers 100 viewable titles, with more on the way each month. It has programs for all ages and hours of entertainment for children. Aside from the televised programs, Playaway View features animated picture books and curriculum-based learning for prekindergarten through high school.
Scarsdale Library Executive Director Elizabeth Bermel said that Playaway View provides patrons with portable educational and entertaining programming that was created with libraries and children in mind.
“Playaway View’s simple functionality, full LCD viewing screen, and expansive content selection make it a great addition to the Scarsdale Public Library,” she said in a release. “With Playaway View, our patrons can enjoy highly acclaimed content in the palm of his hands.”
On Aug. 8, a representative from Findaway World will be at the Scarsdale Public Library to help launch the collection. A table will be set up in the lobby from 3 to 6 p.m. Patrons with questions can learn more about the player and content.
