The folks at the Scarsdale Animal Hospital are guessing that the female dog is about eight years old and is probably a mix of greyhound and beagle.
She has a brindle coat.
The hospital said the dog was severely underweight when she was brought in by a good Samaritan on Oct. 1.
No one is sure how long it was outside without food or water.
The animal was covered with fleas and ticks and has tested positive for Lyme disease.
In dogs, Lyme can cause kidney disease and other problems.
The hospital said the sweet and quiet canine got a nice bath and is being treated for Lyme and other medical issues.
Anyone with any information about the dog or its owners is asked to call the hospital at (914)-723-0640.
The hospital is at 741 Post Road. It can be reached by calling (914)-723-0290.
Its hours are 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; 8 a.m.-- 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays; and 8 a.m. to 12 noon on Sundays.
