SCARSDALE, N.Y. -- Michelle Seymour from the Parkway Café cooled the crowd with Italian ices Friday while the yearly Scarsdale sidewalk sale lining the streets of the downtown area sizzled.
The sidewalk sale is great because it gets everyone out. Business has been good. Parkway Café has been a participant for at least 25 years. said Seymour, the assistant manager of the shop.
Three women working at Momotaro Hair Salon slipped out of the salon to buy an Italian ice from Seymour.
I like the different flavor Italian Ices that the Parkway Café sells, said Yasnko Tsuda, I am enjoying a nice Italian ice on a warm day like today.
Tsudas co-workers, Masayo Hasegaua and Orie Shishido, agreed that they both like the Italian ices and thats why they slipped outside to buy some.
Residents mingled and appeared are friendly and enjoy looking at the merchandise outside of the conventional store setting. The Sidewalk Sale provides merchants a three day window to sell their products outside of their stores on the sidewalk.
The Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce is pulling out all the stops to make the sidewalk sale a success. It has a balloon artist and a DJ on Saturday to conclude the event.
People always like to walk around and check out whats going on and get that last deal, said Scarsdale Spencer Pharmacy worker Brendan O'Loughlin.
Hillary Sheperd, owner of franchise of Servpro of Scarsdale/Mt Vernon, a member of the Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce, is happy with the turnout.
It is on par with last years she said. Almost every merchant is participating. I am really proud to be a part of the Scarsdale Chamber of Commerce. Here in Scarsdale, all of the business owners, like myself, have been able to help the community flourish.
