Jordan Elkins, a Scarsdale High School junior, sat on the floor in the corner of the Scarsdale Public Library with his Mac computer on the floor in front of him, piles of physics worksheets in hand, Reese's Puffs Cereal an arm's length away and Mountain Dew in his near future.
"We have 12 different units and I am trying to cram them into one night," said Elkins. "Mountain Dew is key to my success. I drank a liter of Mountain Dew last night while writing two research papers."
Elkins is depending on Mountain Dew's caffeine to keep him up long enough to learn about Newton's three Laws and other physics concepts for his final exam Wednesday at 8:45 a.m.
"Everyone here is studying for physics," said Scarsdale High School Junior Allie Chaves, of the few dozen students in the library. "It counts for 20 percent of our grade."
The Scarsdale Public Library stayed open until 11 p.m., rather than the usual 9 p.m., Tuesday to accommodate high school students. The library will also stay open two hours later than usual Wednesday.
"I am planning on being here until 11 p.m.," said Zach Edelman, a Scarsdale High School junior. "Eight hours of physics studying."
