SCARSDALE, N.Y. Scarsdale voters are being asked to head for the polls Tuesday, Jan. 17, to choose members of the School Board Nominating Committee (SBNC), the panel charged with finding and nominating candidates for the board of education. Voters will also be asked to vote on six changes to the SBNC resolution that governs the nominating process.
All voting will take place from 7 to 10 a.m. and from 2 to 9 p.m. in the Scarsdale Middle School auditorium lobby. The middle school is located at 134 Mamaroneck Road.
Voters must be a U.S. citizen, 18 or older, and a Scarsdale resident for at least 30 days prior to the election.
Members of the SBNC are elected by residents of their election unit, corresponding to one of the five elementary school districts in Scarsdale Edgewood, Fox Meadow, Greenacres, Heathcote and Quaker Ridge. Each election unit elects six voting members, two each year, to serve staggered three-year terms, so that there are 10 voting members elected to the SBNC each year, with a total of 30 voting members on the SBNC.
Last year, 388 voters turned out for the election.
This year, the SBNC will nominate two candidates to the board to fill the seats currently held by Mary Beth Gose and Lewis Leone Jr., who will be completing their first terms and are eligible for re-nomination. The school board election, which includes a public vote on the school district budget, will be held May 15.
