WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A fast-moving, damaging band of thunderstorms that passed through Westchester and Putnam counties late Tuesday afternoon resulted in numerous reports of downed trees and road closures.
Metro-North experienced delays of up to 90 minutes on the Harlem Line as a result of a fallen tree in the Bedford vicinity.
Route 118 in Yorktown was closed at Old Country Road following a report of a downed tree.
Route 202 in Somers was closed in both directions at Croton Falls Road following a downed tree reported at 4:30 p.m.
Route 129 in Yorktown was closed in the area of Chapman Street following a downed tree and wires. The closure was reported at 4:45 p.m.
About 6 p.m. in Rye, a large tree limb fell on the hood of a pickup truck traveling south on Boston Post Road near Glen Oak Drive, requiring a crew to clear the branches. No one was hurt, police said.
There were numerous power outages in Northern Westchester, including 1,632 Lewisboro residents without power (among 5,476 total customers). A total of 632 power outages were reported in Yorktown, 277 in Somers and 206 in Bedford as of 6 p.m. Tuesday.
As of midnight, Con Edison reported that power had been restored to nearly 400 Ossining residents while more than 200 Yorktown residents remained without power.
Approximately 50 percent of residents of Ridgefield were reported to be without power at 5 p.m.
