WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- The 1 to 2 inches of snow coming Sunday night are just a precursor of what could come later this week in Westchester County, the National Weather Service said in a Hazardous Weather Outlook statement.

A total of 1 to 2 inches of snow will fall as the clipper system overspreads the area from west to east, with flurries expected to begin late Sunday afternoon, the weather service said.

There will still be enough snow to create slick travel across the Northeast, said, with 1 to 3 inches of snow spreading along the I-95 corridor along the East Coast from Philadelphia to Portland, Maine.

But a strong winter storm is possible in Westchester from Wednesday night through Thursday, although the timing and intensity are uncertain, the weather service said. Up to 6 inches or more of snow is possible in the storm. The chance of snow is 50 percent.

On Sunday, temperatures should drop into the teens in the evening, with most snow before 11 p.m. Chance of snow is 90 percent.

Monday will be sunny with a high between 27 and 30 degrees and an overnight low in the single digits.
